While “Dokokani Mile” is only available for Japan-based members of JAL’s Mileage Bank frequent flyer program, I decided to introduce it here since I believe it might be the cheapest roundtrip award in the world.
JAL’s “Dokokani Mile” Award Ticket
With “Dokokani Mile,” for just 6,000 JAL miles, one can get a domestic roundtrip ticket to a random destination out of four options presented prior to booking.
The award option is currently available out of Tokyo Haneda and Osaka Itami airports. As for destinations, all direct flights from the two airport are part of the promotion – including Okinawa.
“Dokonimo Mile” tickets can be booked for between one week and one month ahead of the planned departure (except for some blackout dates) with a maximum stay of 10 days.
What is more interesting however, is the ability to choose from five timeframes (three in case of departing from Osaka) on both the outbound and inbound flight. As such, for example, one can maximize a weekend trip by selecting the 05:00-08:59 timeframe for a Saturday outbound flight, and 19:00-23:59 timeframe for a Sunday return flight.
After selecting the departure airport, dates, timeframes, and number of passengers, one is offered a selection of four destinations. From there, one can either proceed to book the award, or…
…one can refresh the page (a limited number of times per day) to get a new set of destinations.
In either case, once the “Dokokani Mile” is submitted, one of the four destinations will be confirmed within three days of booking.
How Does It Compare with Other Japanese Domestic Award Costs?
While this award is not for someone aiming to get to a business trip, it certainly is a great option for people looking for a weekend getaway – in which case the randomness of the destination might even add a bit of excitement.
In those cases, for 6,000 miles roundtrip, it is an incredible value. Just for comparison, “regular” one-way domestic awards start at:
