Fuji Dream Airlines (FDA) is a Japanese domestic airline headquartered in Shizuoka, the home of Mount Fuji, and mainly operating out of Nagoya Komaki airport. While it is not large enough to be known to the general public outside Japan, within the world of aviation enthusiasts, it is known for painting each of its aircraft in a different color.
Presently, the airline operates eleven aircraft including 3 Embraer ERJ-170s and 8 ERJ-175s. However, needing more aircraft for its growth, Fuji Dream Airlines ordered up to six more ERJ-175s (3 confirmed plus 3 options) during last year’s Paris Air Show.
Fuji Dream Airlines Ship No. 12: White
Several weeks ago, FDA ran a social media campaign asking its followers to guess the color of its next aircraft – ship no. 12, the first of the aircraft ordered last year. The options were as follows:
Then, last week, the airline announced the choice of color for the 12th aircraft as well as details about its delivery.
The aircraft registered JA12FJ will be delivered wearing a white livery with “Dream Red” – Fuji Dream Airlines’ original color – details including titles. The aircraft is expected to be delivered on March 14, 2018, arriving at Nagoya Komaki airport at 4:00PM.
Just like FDA’s other ERJ-175s, it will be configured with 84 seats.
The Aircraft’s Debut on “White Day”
Fuji Dream Airlines’ white aircraft is expected to debut on a passenger flight three day after its delivery – on March 17, 2018.
Rather than being put on a regular scheduled flight, the aircraft will first operate a special charter flight for couples to celebrate White Day (which is officially on March 14, one month after Valentine’s Day).
Normally, as an aviation enthusiast, I would be disappointed to see an airline go from liveries as colorful as those of Fuji Dream Airlines to a white livery. However, in this case, it is not a problem at all since it is just “one of many colors.”
Plus, I think the red titles on the white aircraft look great!
