Thai Airways to Resume Bangkok – Perth Route in March 2024
The first of the three routes to resume will be Perth. Thai Airways will connect Bangkok with Western Australia’s capital Perth daily starting on March 31, 2024.
On Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, the flights will operate with the following schedule:
- TG481 / Bangkok Suvarnabhumi – Perth / 7:20AM – 3:05PM

On the remaining days of the week, the outbound flights will be redeye:
- TG481 / Bangkok Suvarnabhumi – Perth / 12:01AM – 7:45AM
- TG482 / Perth – Bangkok Suvarnabhumi / 9:20AM – 3:20PM
Thai Airways plans to deploy its 787-8 on the route.
The airline operates six airframes of the type, each equipped with 264 seats including 24 in business (Royal Silk) class and 240 in economy class. While business class is in a 2-2-2 layout, economy class is in a 3-3-3 layout.

Thai Airways first launched flights to Perth all the way back in 1985, operating a weekly flight. More recently, according to Thai Airways’ Sustainable Development Report 2015, it operated the route five times a week using 777-200ERs up until 2015 when the route went daily and was switched to the 787-8 before being suspended due to the pandemic.
Currently, there are no non-stop flights between Bangkok and Perth. Australian destinations served from Bangkok include Sydney (Thai Airways, Qantas, Thai AirAsia X) and Melbourne (Thai Airways, Jetstar).
Thai Airways to Resume Two European Destinations in July 2024
Both of the European destinations Thai Airways is planning to resume in the summer of 2024 – Oslo in Norway and Milan Malpensa in Italy – will be operated daily starting from July 1, 2024.
The Oslo route will be operated with the following schedule:
- TG954 / Bangkok Suvarnabhumi – Oslo / 12:55AM – 7:25AM
- TG955 / Oslo – Bangkok Suvarnabhumi / 2:15PM – 6:15AM+1
Thai Airways plans to operate the route using the largest aircraft it currently operates – the 777-300ER. Two-class configuration aircraft with 348 seats including 42 staggered business class seats in a 1-2-1 layout and 306 economy class seats in a generous 3-3-3 layout will be used rather than the airline’s new three-class 777-300ERs.
The Star Alliance member will face competition on the route in the form of twice-weekly flights by the low-cost airline Norse.

The flights to and from Milan will operate with the following schedule:
- TG940 / Bangkok Suvarnabhumi – Milan Malpensa / 12:40AM – 7:35AM
- TG941 / Milan Malpensa – Bangkok Suvarnabhumi / 2:05PM – 5:55AM+1
Thai Airways will use its pair of Boeing 787-9s on the Milan route. The aircraft are equipped with 30 business class seats in a 2-2-2 layout and 268 economy class seats in a 3-3-3 layout for a total of 298 seats.
At the moment, no airline is operating non-stop between Thai’s capital and Milan.
Currently, Thai Airways is serving eight destinations in Europe including Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Istanbul, London Heathrow, Munich, Paris, Stockholm, and Zurich. In the past, it served other destinations like Vienna and Madrid too.
Summary
In an effort to rebuild its (mid- and) long-haul network after the pandemic, Thai Airways announced the resumption of three intercontinental routes.
Starting in March 2024, it will reconnect Bangkok with Perth, and in July 2024, it will add flights from Bangkok to Oslo and Milan. All of the flights will operate daily. Oslo and Milan will be the airline’s ninth and tenth destination in Europe respectively.
