Haneda Airport Collision Official ATC Communications Transcript (Full English Text Released by MLIT)

Earlier today, the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism released the full transcript of ATC communications around the time of yesterday’s accident at Tokyo Haneda Airport.

I decided to add the full text here as I could not find it elsewhere online in text form (other than in Japanese or versions translated back into English from the English-to-Japanese translation provided by MLIT).

Bolding and color coding (red for Tokyo Tower, black for Japan Air 516 – the A350 involved in the accident, blue for JA722A – the Dash 8 involved in the accident, and grey for aircraft unrelated to the accident) are my own to make it clearer which parts are relevant to the accident and which parts were communicated by whom.

Summary

A few hours ago, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism released the full transcript of ATC communications that took place in about four minutes around yesterday’s tragic accident.

I had a trouble locating the full original version so, given that I finally found it in a video, decided to transcribe it and post it here in case you were looking for it.

  1. Some resources claim that JAL516 and JA722A communicated with tower on different frequencies, and hence were not aware of each other. This transcript does not mention it, which is a big contributory factor, if it confirms to be true.
