With less than 300 orders across three variants, Embraer’s E-Jet E2 series has not seen as many orders so far as the manufacturer would have hoped. That said, the Brazilian manufacturer was able to add another 25 airframes to its order book for the series’s most popular variant – E195-E2 – thanks to Canada’s Porter Airlines.

Porter Airlines Brings Its Total E195-E2 Order to 75 Airframes
Porter Airlines announced its first Embraer E195-E2 order back in July 2021. At the time, it ordered 30 aircraft with options for another 50. A year later, the airline ordered another 20 E195-E2s while maintaining the options for an additional 50.
On November 29, 2023, Porter Airlines firmed up half of the options it had. With that, the airline has so far placed 75 firm orders for the E195-E2 and has 25 options remaining. The latest deal is valued at $2.1 billion at list price. That said, that certainly is not the price Porter is paying.
The airline took delivery of its first E195-E2 back on December 21, 2022, when it became the type’s first customer in North America. To date, it has taken delivery of a total of 24 airframes of the type.
Porter is the airline with the largest number of E195-E2s in service right now, as well as the airline with the largest number of the type on order. Other airlines using the type include KLM Cityhopper, Helvetic Airways, and Azul.

Porter’s Expansion into New Markets Using the E195-E2
With the only other type in Porter Airlines’ fleet being the turboprop Dash 8 Q400, the E195-E2 is allowing the airline to expand into markets it previously didn’t couldn’t serve.
When signing the latest order, Porter Airlines’ President and CEO Michael Deluce remarked that “these additional 25 orders enable us to continue extending our reach throughout North America, with more exciting new destinations.”
The E195-E2s cannot be used at Porter Airlines’ home base, Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. That said, Porter used the jet to open up new routes from Toronto’s larger Pearson Airport, Ottawa, Halifax, and Montreal.
The E195-E2s operate on international flights to the United States (including Las Vegas, Miami, San Francisco, and Los Angeles), Mexico, and the Caribbean. They can also be seen on domestic flights including longer ones like Ottawa and Toronto to Vancouver.
All Porter Airlines E195-E2 are in an all-economy 132-seat configuration with four seats per row in a 2-2 layout. Each aircraft has 16 PorterReserve seats with a 36-inch seat pitch, 20 PorterClassic Stretch seats with a 34-inch seat pitch, and 96 PorterClassic seats with a 30-inch seat pitch.

Summary
Porter Airlines ramped up its order for the Embraer E195-E2 up to 75 aircraft. That includes previous orders of 30 and 20 aircraft, as well as the latest order of 25 aircraft. The airline also has options for further 25 airframes. With that, Porter is set to be the largest operator of the type for the foreseeable future.
