Yesterday, January 11, 2018, Japan Air Self-Defense Force announced that one of its two Boeing 747-400 aircraft lost a small panel in-flight.
The incident happened during a ferry flight from Tokyo Haneda airport where the aircraft underwent scheduled maintenance and Chitose Air Base in Hokkaido, the Japan Air Force One’s base.
The fact that the 500-gram panel that fell off the aircraft’s engine pylon was missing was discovered after the aircraft landed at Chitose Air Base around 1:10PM.
Currently, the cause of the incident is being investigated.
