Japan Air Commuter mechanic died in hospital after getting crushed by a Saab 340 wing at Kagoshima airport, a variety of Japanese media including NHK reported.
The incident occurred shortly before 1PM Japan time on December 29, 2017, when a Japan Coast Guard Saab 340 under maintenance by Japan Air Commuter tilted while getting towed into the airline’s hangar at Kagoshima airport.
A 31-year old Japan Air Commuter mechanic got trapped under the wing and was taken into hospital in Kagoshima city by helicopter in an unconscious state.
Unfortunately, about two hours later, the mechanic passed away.
From the pictures of the incident, it seems as though the left landing gear located under the wing retracted during towing. The exact cause of the incident is not known yet, though, and the police and other relevant organizations are currently investigating it.
