Peach, a Japanese low-cost carrier based at Kansai airport, announced yesterday that it plans to operate flights between Osaka Kansai and Niigata airports starting on March 1, 2018.
Peach’s New Flights Between Osaka and Niigata
The new route will be operated once a day with Airbus A320 aircraft as follows:
- MM143 from Osaka Kansai to Niigata: depart at 12:00PM, arrive at 1:05PM
- MM144 from Niigata to Osaka Kansai: depart at 1:35AM, arrive at 3:10PM
Currently, the flights can be booked up to March 24, 2018, and the fares start at 4,190 JPY (about 37 USD) one-way.
To promote the route to passengers, Peach also created a special website (Japanese only) introducing places in Niigata worth checking out – including a store where one can taste sake of all 93 breweries in the prefecture.
The First Low Cost Carrier to Serve Niigata
The Peach flight will not be Niigata’s first connection with Osaka since ANA, JAL, and Ibex already fly between Niigata and Osaka Itami several times a day. However, it will be the airport’s first connection with Osaka Kansai airport.
Peach will also become the first low cost airline flying into Niigata. Given that currently, the cheapest flights start at around 9,000 JPY (about 80 USD), Peach’s entry into the market should make travel between the two regions more accessible.
